SBTA, the Swedish Business Travel Association, was founded in 1983. The association has to this date 320 members. The main part of these members are companies and organisations from both the private and the public sector that act as business travel buyers - we call them Direct members. A wide range of suppliers and agents are part of SBTA as Associate members – airlines, railway companies, travel agents, hotels, car hire companies, credit card companies, consultants, ferry companies etc.
The purpose of the association is to create platform where we work towards "cost effective business meeting and travel" in the private as well as in the public sector. Our business concept is to be the neutral network and foundation, which will allow the further development of Travel and Meetings Management in Swedish companies and organisations. We also aspire to be the platform for a continual dialogue between the customer and the supplier which contributes to the development of the business travel products and systems of the future.
SBTA monitors and influences the development within the business travel area through contact with the different parts of the travel market and with authorities. Through the establishment of networks within the association we have created important platforms for exchange of experience amongst the customers and between the customers and the suppliers/agents. Deepened understanding of each others position is the foundation of a successful result for all parts.
SBTA arrange courses and seminars aimed to deepen knowledge of Travel Management. Through our range of courses we offer both basic knowledge and further training in the different parts of Travel Management work. Members of SBTA has access to a wide network within the Swedish industry and the business travel field and can among other things exchange experiences about how other companies and organisations deal with questions to do with business travel.
Even if Sweden has come a long way when it comes to Travel Management we need to learn from other countries. SBTA has both formal and informal contact with corresponding organisations in The Nordic countries, Europe and the rest of the world.
Together with several sister organisations we have formed GBTA Europe - a global network for exchange of competence and experience. The board of SBTA decided for 2012 that all Direct members will be given free membership in GBTA, which means that the buyers also have a global platform through which they can operate. Associate members are offered GBTA membership at a reduced rate.
